We’re thrilled to introduce Sarah Hauck, the latest addition to the 1Let team as a Trainee Portfolio Manager. Originally from Germany, Sarah’s journey to Scotland has been anything but conventional. After taking a gap year in the US, where she embraced the excitement of travel and new experiences, she decided to make Scotland her home in 2020.
Before joining us, Sarah worked in hospitality and leisure, where she honed her passion for people and customer service. Her love for meeting new people and learning about different cultures continued to grow, making her an excellent fit for our team. Sarah’s passion for stories, particularly in Sci-Fi and Fantasy, led her to pursue a degree in literature, which she completed in 2024.
Now, as our newest team member, Sarah is diving headfirst into the world of property management. She’s excited to learn all about the letting business, especially the ability to accompany clients through the process of finding their perfect flat. "I’m most excited to help people find their ideal homes and ensure they have a smooth experience along the way," Sarah shared.
Her background in literature also brings a unique perspective to her role. Sarah explains, "My text understanding for communication, paired with my empathy for people from all walks of life (thanks to reading about almost every state of life in books), will definitely help me connect with our clients." She’s already noticing how much of the letting industry relies on first impressions, saying, "Everything important gets decided after the first meeting," and she’s eager to hone her skills in the fast-paced world of property management.
Outside of work, Sarah enjoys reading and writing her own stories, with Harry Potter as her go-to comfort book, and indulging in her love for computer games. If you’re ever looking for her, you might also find her on the hunt for the perfect matcha latte—she’s already discovered contenders like Fluffee in Newington and even makes her own. "I’m determined to try every coffee shop in town to find the best one!" she says with a smile.
When asked about her ideal workday, Sarah says it would be a mix of "office, outside, and lunch"—a perfect balance of tasks and breaks. And when it comes to mastering new skills, answering the phone is at the top of her list for her first year at 1Let.
Sarah’s sense of adventure extends beyond work. She’s a huge fan of Engine Summer by John Crowley (her favourite sci-fi novel) and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (her go-to fantasy). If she could live in any fictional world, it would be post-Witch Narnia, where she’d experience the magic of a new world. "There’s so much to discover and explore," she says.
Sarah is also a seasoned traveller. Her gap year taught her a valuable lesson: "Nothing will ever stay as bad as it seems, you’ll be fine." The most memorable place she’s visited so far is Gibraltar, where she enjoyed British fish & chips with Spanish weather. Her bucket list destinations? Japan, South Korea, and Australia.
And if she could swap lives with anyone for a day? "George R.R. Martin, so I could finish writing Game of Thrones!" she laughs.
